(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천시가 16일, 보건복지부 ‘2026~2029년 권역응급의료센터 재지정’ 발표 결과(‘26. 7. 15. 10시)에 따라 가톨릭대학교 인천성모병원이 신규 권역응급의료센터로 지정됨에 따라 인천시 권역응급의료센터가 기존 2개소에서 3개소로 확대됐다고 밝혔다. 

인천시에 따르면, 이번 지정으로 시는 기존 길의료재단 길병원, 인하대학교의과대학부속병원과 함께 가톨릭대학교 인천성모병원까지 총 3개 권역응급의료센터를 운영하게 되며 지정 기간은 2026년 11월 1일부터 2029년 10월 31일까지 3년이다. 

권역응급의료센터는 중증외상, 심뇌혈관질환, 중증응급수술 등 생명을 위협하는 중증응급환자에게 최종 치료를 제공하는 지역 최고 수준의 응급의료기관이다. 

또한,재난 발생 시 응급의료 대응, 지역응급의료기관과의 협력체계 구축, 응급의료 종사자 교육 등의 핵심 역할을 수행한다.

이번 확대 지정은 인천시가 지역 응급의료체계 강화를 위해 권역응급의료센터 추가 지정의 필요성을 지속적으로 제기하고, 보건복지부에 인천의 의료수요와 지역 특성을 적극적으로 설명하는 한편, 의료기관과 긴밀히 협력하며 지정 준비를 지원해 온 노력의 결실이라는 점에서 의미가 크다.

특히 인천시는 인천국제공항과 인천항을 보유한 국가 관문도시라는 특수성, 백령도 등 도서·접경지역을 포함한 광범위한 응급의료 수요, 권역응급의료센터의 지역 편중에 따른 접근성 한계 등을 근거로 권역응급의료센터 추가 지정의 필요성을 지속적으로 건의해 왔다.

이번 인천성모병원 신규 지정으로 권역응급의료센터가 기존 남부권 중심에서 북부권까지 확대되어 중증응급환자의 이송시간 단축과 지역 내 최종 치료 역량이 크게 향상될 것으로 기대된다. 

또한, 응급의료기관 간 역할 분담과 협력체계가 더욱 강화되어 시민들은 보다 신속하고 전문적인 응급의료서비스를 제공받을 수 있게 된다.

한편, 인천시는 앞으로 권역응급의료센터를 중심으로 지역응급의료센터, 소방본부, 119구급대 등과의 협력체계를 강화하고, 지역 특성에 맞는 응급환자 이송체계와 중증응급의료 대응체계를 지속적으로 고도화해 나갈 계획이다.

According to Incheon City, with this designation, the city will operate a total of three Regional Emergency Medical Centers, including the Catholic University of Korea Incheon St. Mary's Hospital, alongside the existing Gil Medical Foundation Gil Hospital and Inha University College of Medicine Hospital. The designation period is three years, from November 1, 2026, to October 31, 2029.

Regional Emergency Medical Centers are top-tier regional emergency medical institutions that provide definitive treatment to life-threatening emergency patients, such as those with severe trauma, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and critical emergency surgeries.

Furthermore, they perform key roles such as emergency medical response during disasters, establishing cooperative systems with local emergency medical institutions, and training emergency medical personnel.

With the new designation of Incheon St. Mary's Hospital, the Regional Emergency Medical Center network is expected to expand from its current focus on the southern region to include the northern region, thereby shortening transport times for critically ill emergency patients and significantly enhancing the capacity for final treatment within the region.

Furthermore, the division of roles and cooperative systems among emergency medical institutions will be further strengthened, enabling citizens to receive more rapid and professional emergency medical services.

Meanwhile, Incheon City plans to strengthen cooperative systems centered around the Regional Emergency Medical Center with local emergency medical centers, fire departments, and 119 ambulance services, and to continuously advance emergency patient transport systems and critical emergency medical response systems tailored to regional characteristics.
