(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 관세청 인천공항본부세관이 8일 대마초, 대마젤리, 대마씨앗 등 총 138g을 태국 치앙마이발 항공편을 통해 인천공항으로 밀수입하려 한 프리랜서 작가 A씨(남, 34세)를 ‘마약류 관리에 관한 법률’ 위반 혐의로 검거하고, 지난 10월 인천지방검찰청에 불구속 송치했다고 밝혔다.

인천공항세관에 따르면,  세관은 지난 8월 태국 치앙마이발 항공편으로 입국하던 여행자 A씨에 대한 우범성 분석을 바탕으로, 세관 신고 없이 입국장을 통과하려는 A씨를 검사대로 인도해 정밀 검색을 실시했다.

A씨는 프리랜서 작가로 활동하면서 과거에도 동종 범죄로 처벌받은 전력이 있음에도 불구하고, 작품 활동을 이유로 대마를 지속적으로 흡연해 온 것으로 드러났다. 

특히, A씨는 대마초 구매 비용에 부담을 느껴 대마가 합법화된 태국을 직접 방문해 대마 씨앗을 밀수입한 뒤, 자택에서 대마초를 재배해 왔으며, 대마초 재배 규모를 확대할 목적으로 씨앗을 추가로 밀수한 것으로 밝혀졌다. 

관세청 관계자는 “태국 등 일부 대마 합법화 국가를 다녀온 해외여행객을 통한 대마류 밀반입이 지속적으로 적발되고 있다”며, “해외에서 합법적으로 판매되는 마약류라 하더라도 이를 구입하거나 국내로 반입하면 범죄로 처벌받게 되며, 대마를 직접 재배하는 행위 또한 범죄인 만큼 각별한 주의가 필요하다”고 강조했다.
