(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천공항본부세관이 26일, 최근 SNS를 통해 친분을 쌓은 뒤, 세관 통관 절차를 빌미로 세금이나 통관 수수료 명목의 금전을 요구하는 신종 사기 피해사례가 급증함에 따라 국민들의 각별한 주의를 당부한다고 밝혔다.

인천공항본부세관에 따르면, 최근 해외에서 국내로 반입하려는 물품이 세관에 압류되었는지 확인하는 전화 문의가 크게 증가했으며, 이들 민원 상당수가 ‘로맨스 스캠(Romance Scam)’과 연관된 것으로 파악된다.

‘로맨스 스캠(Romance Scam)’은 연애를 뜻하는 ‘Romance’와 신용사기를 뜻하는 ‘Scam’의 합성어로, 카카오톡이나 페이스북 등 SNS를 통해 친분을 쌓은 후 돈을 가로채는 사기 수법이다. 

주로 파병군인, 외교관, UN 직원, 종교인 등 특정 직업군을 사칭해 접근한 다음, 돈 또는 금괴를 한국으로 보냈으나 세관 통관에 문제가 생겼다며 통관 수수료를 요구하는 방식이다.

세관 통관을 사칭한 금전 사기로 피해를 보지 않으려면 개인 계좌로의 송금 요구에는 응하지 말아야 하며, 반드시 사실 여부를 먼저 확인해야 한다.
