(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 관세청 인천본부세관이 10일, 시가 12억 원 상당의 가짜 국산 담배 20만 갑을 호주로 밀수출하려던 국제운송주선업자 중국인 등 3명을 검거하여 관세법 및 상표법 위반 혐의로 검찰에 불구속 송치했다고 밝혔다.

인천본부세관에 따르면, 인천항 보세구역에 반입된 화물 중 품명이 ‘일회용기’로 신고된 컨테이너를 개장 검사하여 위조 에쎄 담배 20만 갑을 적발하고 수사에 착수했다.

수사 결과, 피의자들은 출발지를 중국에서 ‘우리나라’로 세탁하기 위해 환적화물로 위장하여 인천항을 경유한 것으로 밝혀졌다. 

이는 우리나라에서 선적된 화물이 중국, 동남아 화물에 비해 수입국에서 검사 비율이 현저히 낮다는 점을 악용하고자 한 것이다. 

피의자들은 호주의 담배가격이 1갑당 4만 원 정도로 OECD 국가에서 가장 높은 수준이라는 사실을 잘 알고 있었고, 밀수출을 통한 시세차익 및 부당이익을 얻기 위해 범행을 계획했던 것으로 밝혀졌다.

인천본부세관 관계자는 “최근 ‘K-담배 열풍’으로 인해 국산 담배가 세계적으로 큰 인기를 얻자, 국산을 가장한 위조 담배가 외국에서 유통되는 사례가 늘어나고 있다”며,  “앞으로도 경제 국경에서 발생하는 초국가적 불법행위를 철저히 단속하여 K-브랜드 권리 보호 및 우리나라의 국가 신인도 제고에 앞장설 것”이라고 밝혔다.

아울러 “국민들께서도 이러한 불법행위를 발견하는 경우 ‘관세청 밀수신고센터*’로 적극 제보해 달라”고 당부했다.
