(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 남동구가 2일, 보행자 교통사고가 잦았던 용천로 오거리 교차로에 횡단보도를 설치했다고 밝혔다.

남동구에 따르면 지난 7월 해당 지점에서 무단횡단을 하던 어르신이 차량에 치이는 사고가 발생하자 박종효 남동구청장은 현장을 방문해 도로 구조와 보행 동선을 점검하고 횡단보도 설치의 시급성을 확인했다.

용천로 오거리는 주변 상권이 발달해 보행자와 차량 통행이 모두 많고, 도로가 여러 갈래로 갈라진 부정형 오거리 구조로 교통사고 위험이 큰 구간이다. 

또한, 기존 횡단보도 간 이격 거리가 약 120m 이상으로 떨어져 있어 교통약자를 포함한 보행자의 통행 불편이 컸고, 이로 인한 무단횡단도 빈번하게 발생해 왔다.

이에 남동구와 남동경찰서는 여러 차례 협의를 거쳐 용천로 오거리 교차로 내 신규 횡단보도 설치안을 마련했다.

이후 해당 교통시설물은 인천경찰청 교통안전심의위원회 심의를 거쳐, 남동구가 최종 설치를 완료했다.​ 

남동구는 이번 횡단보도 설치로 보행자가 보다 안심하고 도로를 건널 수 있는 환경이 조성돼 보행 안전성과 통행 편의가 크게 향상될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
