(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 부천시가 최근 부천교육지원청과 학교시설 개방 활성화를 위한 지원 및 협력에 관한 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다. 

부천시에 따르면, 이번 협약은 학교 체육관, 운동장, 주차장 등 개방시설을 활용해 시민의 생활체육 활동과 지역 공동체 활성화를 지원하기 위해 마련됐다.

이는 2019년 3월 경기도교육청 및 부천교육지원청과 맺은 기존 협약의 기한 만료에 따라, 여건 변화를 반영해 새롭게 체결됐다. 

특히, 2026년부터 추진 예정인 ‘학교 운동장 개방지원’ 사업 내용을 반영해 학교시설 개방의 실효성을 높였다.

부천시는 경기도 최초로 2023년부터 초·중학교의 체육관, 주차장, 운동장을 부천도시공사에 위탁해 운영하고 있으며, 현재까지 11개 학교가 참여하고 있다. 

특히, 실무협약을 통해 시민에게 개방된 학교는 29곳에 이르며, 시는 실무협약교에 연간 총 11억 원을 지원해 생활체육 활성화와 주차난 해소에 기여하고 있다.

아울러, 부천시는 실무협약 체결 여부와 관계없이 학교시설이 충분히 개방될 수 있도록 내년 3월부터 주말에 운동장을 전면 개방하는 학교를 대상으로, 노인일자리 인력을 활용해 월요일 아침 등교 전 운동장 환경정비를 지원할 계획이다. 

이에 따라 초·중·고 26개 학교에서 시범 운영한 뒤, 결과를 바탕으로 점차 확대해 나갈 예정이다. 

이번 조치는 과거 공공시설이 부족하던 시절 마을 광장 역할을 했던 학교 운동장을 다시 시민의 공간으로 돌려주기 위한 첫걸음이다. 

기존에는 평일 중심으로 제한 개방됐지만, 앞으로는 이용 수요가 높은 주말에도 시민이 편리하게 이용할 수 있도록 한다.

학교시설 개방 확대는 시민 생활체육 기반 조성과 함께 지역 내 주차난 해소에도 도움이 될 전망이다. 

또, 학교 공간이 지역주민과 함께하는 복합공간으로 자리 잡으며, 교육기관과 지역사회의 연결성도 강화될 것으로 기대된다.
