(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천시교육청이 2일, 남동구청과 인천약산초등학교 통학로 개선을 위한 업무협약을 체결하고 8월부터 본격 공사에 착수한다고 밝혔다.

인천시교육청에 따르면, 이번 사업은 교육청과 기초자치단체가 특별교부금과 지자체 예산을 공동 투입해 추진하는 인천 최초의 학교 통학로 조성사업으로, 학생 안전을 위한 선도적인 협력 모델이라는 점에서 큰 의미를 가진다. 

그동안 약산초 주변에는 별도의 통학로가 없어 학생과 주민들이 차량 사이를 오가야 하는 위험한 보행 환경에 노출돼 있었다. 

이에 시교육청과 남동구는 학교 내 화단 부지를 활용해 안전한 통학로를 조성하기로 협의했다.

이번 사업은 2023년부터 교육청, 학교, 지자체가 지속적으로 협의한 결과로, 학생은 물론 지역 주민까지 안전하게 이용할 수 있는 공공 인프라가 조성될 예정이다.

도성훈 교육감은 “이번 사업은 인천에서 교육청과 지자체가 협력하여 학생 안전을 위해 함께한 첫 사례로 매우 뜻깊다”며 “앞으로도 학교 안전 인프라 개선을 위해 지역과의 협력을 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 약산초 통학로 조성 공사는 8월 초 착공해 8월 말 완공될 예정이며, 인천시교육청은 이번 사례를 바탕으로 지자체와 협력하여 다양한 교육환경 개선사업으로 확대해 나갈 계획이다.
