(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천시가 12일 시청 대접견실에서 지역 국회의원과 시의원, 옹진군수와 옹진군의회 의원, 고려고속훼리(주) 관계자 등 참석한 가운데 ‘인천~백령항로 대형여객선 신조 운항 공동협약(MOU)’을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

인천시에 따르면, 이번 공동협약은 인천과 백령항로를 운항하는 대형여객선을 신조로 운항해 인천시민과 옹진군 주민의 안정적인 해상이동권 보장을 위해 체결됐다.

주요 협약내용으로는 인천시는 대형여객선 신조 운항에 따른 결손금 발생 시 그 일부에 대한 옹진군에 재정적 지원을 위해 협력하고 국회의원은 국비확보를 통한 결손금 지원을 위해 협력하기로 했다. 

또한 옹진군은 고려고속훼리(주)의 대형여객선 신조 운항에 필요한 행‧재정적 지원을 약속했다. 고려고속훼리(주)는 공모 및 제안서에서 제시한 요건을 모두 갖춘 대형여객선을 건조하여 인천~백령항로에 취‧운항 한다.

제10차 공모에서는 3개 선사가 응모해 고려고속훼리(주)를 우선협상대상자로 선정한 후 지난 10일 협상을 마무리했다.

고려고속훼리(주)는 올해 상반기 안으로 국내 총 톤수 2천 톤 이상, 최고속도 41노트 이상, 승용차 기준 20대 등 차량 선적이 가능한 쾌속 카페리여객선을 발주해 2028년 취항을 목표 사업을 추진할 계획이다. 

유정복 인천시장은 “대형여객선 취항으로 수산물 운송과 차량 탑재등 섬 지역 주민들의 편리한 해상 이동이 가능하게 되어 지역 경제 활성화의 기반이 될 것이다”며, “올해 인천형 아이바다패스 시행과 함께 관광 인프라 구축을 통한 관광 활성에 많은 도움이 될 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
