(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천시의회가 11일,  시 의회  교육위원회 이용창 위원장(국·서구2)이 지역 내 학생들의 교통안전 및 교육․문화 시설 개선을 약속했다고 밝혔다.

인천시의회에 따르면, 이 위원장은 최근 어린이 통학로 안전 확보 및 도서관 시설 점검을 위해 서구 인천양지초등학교 주변 통학로를 점검하고, 서구도서관을 방문해 시설 운영 현황을 청취하는 시간을 가졌다고 밝혔다.

이번 현장 방문은 가정2지구 A2블록 입주 예정 학부모들이 어린이들의 안전한 통학로 조성을 위한 개선 요청을 전달한 데 따른 것이다.

이날 현장에는 인천시교육청, 인천서부교육지원청, 인천서구청 등의 관계 공직자들과 인천양지초교 학부모들이 함께해 학교 정문에서부터 아파트 출입로까지 직접 도보 이동하며 안전 위해 요소를 점검했다.

이 과정에서 학교 정문 미끄럼 방지 바닥 보수, 안전 펜스 설치, 횡단보도 신설, 그늘막 설치 등의 필요성이 제기됐으며, 이용창 위원장은 즉각 인천서구청에 해당 개선 사항을 검토하고 조속히 조치할 것을 요청했다.

이용창 위원장은 “어린이 통학로는 학생들의 안전과 직결되는 문제인 만큼 적극적으로 개선이 필요하다”며 “학교 주변의 안전사고 예방을 위해 지속적으로 점검하고 지원하겠다”고 밀했다.

이어 방문한 인천서구도서관과 가재울꿈어린이도서관에서는 도서관 간 실내 연결 통로가 없어 우천 시 이동과 책 운반이 불편하고, 원도심에 위치해 대중교통 접근성이 다소 떨어지는 문제점이 지적됐다. 

이에 이 위원장은 “도서관 이용의 불편함을 해소할 방안을 검토하고, 누구나 쉽게 이용할 수 있는 열린 도서관으로 발전할 수 있도록 지원하겠다”고 했다.

그는 또 “고구려 시대 경당이 그랬듯이 서구도서관이 원도심 아이들의 꿈을 키우는 배움터가 되길 바란다”며 “디지털 시대 속에서도 책을 통한 배움이 지속될 수 있도록 도서관 운영 지원에도 힘쓰겠다”고 덧붙였다.
