부천세종병원에 근무하는 심원미 수간호사는 내과 전담이라는 특수성 탓에 환자 돌보는 일 이외에 문서작업 업무가 상당하다. 

심 간호사는 그러던 중 병원에서 로봇프로세스자동화(RPA)가 시행 중이고, COE(전문가 그룹) 활동도 이뤄지는 걸 접했다. 

단순 반복 업무를 자동화하면, 그만큼 환자 간호 시간을 더 확보하게 될 터. 심 간호사는 망설임 없이 지난 1월 RPA COE 3기에 합류, 부서 업무에 도움이 되는 프로그램 개발에 본격 나섰다. 

심 간호사가 자동화 도입이 필요하다며 낸 아이디어는 회의실 반복 예약 업무. 현재 혜원의료재단 부천세종병원·인천세종병원에서 연간 5천여건의 회의실 정기 예약이 이뤄지고 있다는 점을 주목했다. 

단순히 일시와 회의명을 입력하는 업무여서 변수가 크지 않고 예외율도 없으며 타부서도 함께 사용할 수 있는 범용성까지 갖췄으니 개발에 있어 안성맞춤이었다. 

주간, 월간, 분기별 회의를 고려해 예약 기틀을 잡고, 양병원 모든 회의실에서 선택 가능하도록 프로그램을 짰다. 

결과는 대성공. 심 간호사 소속 부서가 연 400여건 회의실 예약을 한다고 따졌을 때, 사람이 하면 2시간 걸렸을 일을 RPA가 40분 만에 완료하는 걸 확인했다.

부천세종병원 심원미 수간호사는 “RPA는 분명 업무시간을 줄이는 효과가 있다. 다만, 이번 RPA COE 3기 교육 및 개발과정을 겪으면서 무턱대고 RPA에 기대기보단 사람이 기본 업무 정리를 하고 적용 범위를 설정해야 RPA 진가가 더 발휘된다는 걸 깨달았다”며 “앞으로 RPA를 임상 실무 업무에도 대입시켜 환자들이 혜택을 볼 수 있도록 개발해 볼 계획”이라고 말했다.

혜원의료재단 세종병원(이사장 박진식)이 최근 인천세종병원 비전홀에서 ‘RPA COE 3기 발표회’를 갖고 이 같은 성과를 공유했다고 밝혔다. 

세종병원에 따르면, RPA(Robot Process Automation)는 가상 로봇을 통해 반복 문서작업과 복잡한 업무를 자동화·간소화해 효율성을 높이는 기술이다. 

COE(Center of Excellence)는 이른바 RPA 전문가 그룹으로, 직원 대표로 RPA 솔루션을 익히는 한편 조직문화에 잘 정착될 수 있도록 타 부서 및 직원에 전파하는 역할을 담당한다.

세종병원은 지난 2022년 부천세종병원·인천세종병원에 처음 RPA 솔루션을 도입해 ‘하리(HALI) 로봇’이라 명명했다. 

올해 1월 출범한 3기 구성원들은 심 간호사의 회의실 예약을 비롯해 환자 안전사고 보고서 작성, 로봇수술 기사 검색, 외국인 환자 만족도 조사통계, 고객경험 조사통계, 구글 설문조사 다운로드 및 가공, 연장 내역 확인 및 검증, 심평원 간호인력 신고, 전국의료관련감염감시체계(KONIS) 집중치료시설(ICU) 병원 현황 신고, 감염병 주간 동향 공지, 심폐운동능력 검사 실시 적합 판정, 당직 스케쥴 작성, 검진 미수료자 독려, 신규 입사자 4대보험 취득 신고 등 다양한 부서의 업무에 RPA 자동화를 접목시켰다.

RPA 접목 결과 총 910시간의 업무시간 단축 효과를 낸 것으로 집계됐다.
