또한, A씨는 수입 수산물의 판매처를 신고하는 국립수산물품질관리원 유통이력관리시스템에 실제 거래처가 아닌 업체나 개인에게 판매한 것처럼 허위 신고해 단속망을 장기간 피해 온 것으로 확인됐다. 

중부해경청은 “국내산과 중국산 민물장어는 외관상 구별이 어렵고, 국내산을 선호하는 소비자 심리를 악용한 전형적인 원산지 둔갑 범죄”라며, A씨가 저가의 중국산 장어를 국내산으로 속여 시세차익을 노린 것으로 판단된다고 밝혔다.

중부해경청 관계자는 “중국산 장어를 국내산으로 속여 판매하는 행위는 소비자를 기만하고 수산물 유통 질서를 훼손하는 범죄”라며, “앞으로도 국립수산물품질관리원 등 관계기관과 협력해 먹거리 안전을 위협하는 불법행위를 철저히 단속하고, 국민이 안심하고 우리 수산물을 소비할 수 있는 환경을 만들겠다”고 말했다.
