(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천 서구가 지난 2일 열린 제5회 구 명칭변경 추진위원회 회의에서 전화 여론조사(유선·무선) 방식으로 7월 중 최종 명칭 선호도 조사를 진행하기로 결정했다고 밝혔다.

서구에 따르면, 여론조사는 행정체제 개편 이후 서구에 거주하는 18세 이상 주민을 대상으로, 성·연령·지역별 인구비례 할당에 따라 총 2,000명을 표본으로 전문 여론조사기관을 통해 실시될 예정이다.

앞서 지난 3월 12일 열린 제3회 추진위원회(3.12.)에서는 1차 명칭 선호도 조사 결과 ‘청라구’와 ‘서해구’가 오차범위 내 경합하여, 추가적인 의견 수렴을 거쳐 주민 수용성을 높이자고 결정했다.  

그러나 대통령 선거 일정으로 공직선거법상 설명회 개최가 일시 중단됐고, 4월 4일부터 30일까지 26일간 온·오프라인을 통한 명칭 선호도 조사방식에 대한 주민 의견수렴을 실시했다. 

총 4,756명이 참여한 결과, 여론조사(1,901명),우편조사(1,446명), 기타 방식(1,409명)으로 조사 방식에 대한 주민 간 이견이 확인되어, 제4회 추진위원회(5.9.)에서는 “대선 이후 주민설명회를 재추진하고 한 번 더 숙의과정을 거쳐 최종 결정을 내리는 것이 바람직하다”고 의견을 모았다.

이에 따라 서구는 6월 24일 연희동·검암경서동, 6월26일 석남동·가좌동, 6월27일 가정동·신현원창동, 6월30일 청라동 등에서 4개 권역별 주민설명회를 개최하고, 그간의 추진 진행사항(명칭공모, 1차 여론조사 결과 등)과 조사 방식에 대한 주민 의견을 청취했다.

서구 관계자는 “많은 주민들이 서구의 새로운 명칭에 관심을 갖고 있는 만큼, 철저한 준비와 과학적인 조사 방식으로 대표성과 신뢰도를 높이겠다”며 “지속적인 홍보로 주민의 뜻이 반영된 명칭이 선정될 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 전했다.

한편, 7월 중 실시된 조사 결과는 구 명칭변경 추진위원회의 최종 심의와 서구의회 및 시의회 의견 청취를 거쳐 법률 제정이 추진될 계획이다.
