(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천 서구 강범석 구청장이 지난 14일, 저출산 문제로 인한 인구 문제의 심각성을 알리기 위해 진행한 '인구문제 인식 개선 릴레이 캠페인'에 동참했다고 밝혔다.

서구에 따르면, 지난해 10월부터 보건복지부와 한국보건복지인재원 주관으로 진행되고 있는 이 캠페인은 저출산 · 고령화에 따른 인구구조 변화와 사회적 관심을 높이기 위해 전국 지자체, 공공기관, 기업 등에서 릴레이 형식으로 참여하고 있다.

강범석 구청장은 캠페인 참여를 통해 “저출산으로 인한 인구 감소는 국가와 지역사회가 함께 고민해야 할 문제”라며 “출산 및 양육 지원, 청년기 기반 강화를 위한 일자리 지원 등 실질적인 인구 정책을 적극 추진하겠다”고 밝혔다. 

서구는 국공립 어린이집 확대, 어린이집 친환경 급식 지원, 아빠 육아휴직수당 지원, 돌(백일)상 대여 사업 추진, 저출산 정책위원회 구성 등 저출산 극복을 위한 다양한 정책을 추진하고 있다.

한편, 지난 2월 통계청 공표에 따르면 2024년 인천 서구의 출생아 수는 4,236명으로 전년 대비 657명(15%) 증가했고, 합계출산율은 0.90명으로 인천 군·구 중 1위를 차지하며 인구정책의 긍정적 성과를 나타냈다.

강범석 서구청장은 캠페인 다음 참여자로 문경복 옹진군수와 심정흠 인천서구가족센터장을 지목했다.
