(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천시교육청이 14일, 도성훈 인천시교육감이 지난 11일 미국 뉴욕에서 유엔평화대학과 평화교육 활성화를 위한 업무 협약을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

인천시교육청에 따르면, 이번 협약으로 양 기관은 평화교육 전문가 양성 과정 공동 개발 및 운영, 평화교육 행사 공동 개최 등을 추진할 예정이다.

이는 지난해 8월 유엔평화대학의 제안으로 시작됐으며, 도 교육감의 콜롬비아 방문 중 뉴욕에서 직접 만나 결실을 맺었다.

유엔평화대학은 1980년 유엔 총회의 결의에 따라 코스타리카에 설립된 평화교육 고등기관으로, 전 세계적으로 평화와 지속 가능한 발전을 위한 고등 교육과정을 운영하고 있다. 

인천시교육청은 ‘인천 평화교육의 세계화’를 목표로 남북 접경지인 교동도를 평화교육 허브로 구축하고, 인천난정평화교육원을 운영하는 등 평화교육에 힘쓰고 있다. 

또한, 교동초등학교 지석분교장을 활용한 청소년평화교육센터 설립도 준비 중이다.

도성훈 교육감은 “이번 협약은 인천 평화교육의 국제적 확장을 위한 중요한 첫걸음”이라며 “양 기관의 협력으로 세계 평화교육 활성화를 위해 위해 노력하겠다”고 말했다.

인천시교육청은 이번 협약을 바탕으로 평화교육 전문가를 양성하여 학교 평화교육을 지원하고 ‘인천 평화교육 포럼’을 국제적인 행사로 발전시킬 예정이다.

Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 14th that Incheon Superintendent of Education Do Seong-hoon signed a business agreement with UN Peace University to promote peace education in New York, USA on the 11th.

According to Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, with this agreement, the two organizations will jointly develop and operate a training course for peace education experts and jointly host peace education events.

This started in August of last year at the suggestion of UN Peace University, and came to fruition when the Superintendent of Education Do met in person in New York during his visit to Colombia.

The UN Peace University is a peace education higher education institution established in Costa Rica in accordance with the resolution of the UN General Assembly in 1980, and operates higher education courses for peace and sustainable development worldwide.

Based on this agreement, Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education plans to train peace education experts to support peace education in schools and develop the ‘Incheon Peace Education Forum’ into an international event.
