(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천 서구의회가 11일 이영철 의원과 백슬기 의원이 인천 서구 복지정책과 및 인천 서구복지재단과 함께 긴급 간담회를 개최하여, 최근 발생한 심곡동 화재 사건을 계기로 위기가구 지원 시스템 점검 및 개선 방안을 논의했다고 밝혔다.

서구의회에 따르면, 이번 간담회는 지난 2월 26일 발생한 심곡동 빌라 화재로 인해 홀로 집에 있던 초등학생 A양이 사망한 안타까운 사건을 계기로 마련됐다. 

참석자들은 해당 사건을 통해 드러난 복지 사각지대를 점검하고, 위기가구 지원 강화 방안에 대해 깊이 있는 논의를 진행했다.

이영철 의원은 "이번 사건은 우리 사회가 위기 가구를 보호하는 시스템을 다시 한번 점검해야 한다는 경각심을 일깨워 주었다"며 "복지 사각지대에 놓인 가구들이 적절한 보호와 지원을 받을 수 있도록 제도적 개선을 추진하겠다"고 밝혔다.

백슬기 의원은 “위기 가구 지원 안내문 등 공공기관에서 발급하는 안내문들이 전문용어와 같이 어려운 용어들로 작성되어 있다”며 “어린아이부터 어르신까지 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 수정해야한다”고 강조했다.

간담회에서는 복지 사각지대 위가가구 실태 전수조사, 위기 가구 지원 대상 확대, 긴급 복지 지원 절차 간소화, 지역 사회 협력 강화 등의 방안이 논의됐다. 

인천 서구 복지정책과 관계자는 "현재 지원 기준을 충족하지 못해 복지 혜택을 받지 못하는 가정이 많다"며 "실질적인 지원이 가능하도록 행정과 민간이 협력해야 한다"고 강조했다.

서구 복지정책과는 간담회에서 논의된 내용을 바탕으로 정책 개선안을 마련하고, 관련 조례 개정을 포함한 구체적인 실행 계획을 수립할 예정이다. 

이영철 의원은 "앞으로도 복지 사각지대를 해소하기 위해 적극적인 정책 추진과 현장 점검을 지속할 것"이라고 전했다.

한편, 인천 서구는 이번 사건을 계기로 위기 아동을 조기에 발견하고 보호할 수 있는 시스템을 강화하기 위해 지역 사회와 협력하여 다양한 지원책을 마련할 계획이다.
