(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 중부지방해양경찰청이 6일 오전 다가오는 봄 행락철 낚시어선 이용자가 증가할 것으로 예상됨에 따라, 청장이 직접 항공기에 탑승하여 관내 원거리 위험해역에 대한 안전순찰을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

중부해경청에 따르면,  이번 순찰 활동은 영해 외측에서 이루어지는 낚시어선의 불법조업을 단속하고, 어업 협정선 인근에서의 중국어선 불법조업 실태를 확인하는 한편, 갯바위․갯벌 등 취약지를 점검하기 위해 진행됐다.

현재 낚시어선은 10톤 미만의 소형어선으로 영해 내측(12해리 이내)에서만 조업이 가능하나, 일부 낚시어선이 영해를 벗어나 20~30해리 이상 먼바다까지 불법 출조하는 사례가 확인되고 있다. 

먼바다는 봄철 기상 변화가 심하고 대형선박 통항량이 많아 해양사고 위험이 높다. 

또한, 낚시어선의 특성상 단독 출조하는 경우가 많아 해양사고 발생 시 주변 선박의 도움을 받기 어려워 위험성이 더욱 커진다.

이에 중부해경청은 항공기 해상순찰을 강화하여 낚시어선의 원거리 조업행위에 대해 중점 단속할 계획이다. 

지난 2년(2023~2024년) 간 중부해경청은 원거리 낚시어선의 ‘어선안전조업법’ 위반(특정해역 침범) 8척, ‘낚시 관리 및 육성법’ 위반(영해 밖 조업) 5척 등 총 13척을 단속했다.

중부해경청장은 “낚시 손맛도 좋지만, 안전이 최우선이다”며 “다중이 이용하는 낚시어선의 사고는 자칫 재난으로까지 확대될 수 있으므로 항공기 해상순찰 강화를 통해 불법행위를 예방하고 안전한 바다 이용 문화 정립에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
