(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 이병래 남동구청장이 취임 전 연휴 기간 중 발생한 한 구민의 긴급한 위기 상황에 신속하게 대처해 한 가정의 비극을 막은 사실이 뒤늦게 알려졌다.

남동구에 따르면 최근 국민신문고에 ‘이번에 당선된 이병래 인천시 남동구청장님 생명의 은인입니다.’는 제목의 감사 글이 접수됐다.

사연은 이랬다. 

지난달 초 서창동에 거주하는 A씨가 약물 복용 중단으로 심각한 발작을 일으키는 위기 상황이 발생했다. 

가족들은 평소 정신질환을 앓던 A씨를 정신의료기관에 입원시키려 했으나 자진 입원, 보호 입원, 강제 입원 모두 본인 거부와 제도 등으로 불가능했다.

환자가 난동을 부리는 등 점차 악화되는 상황에 가족들은 우여곡절 끝에 당시 임기 시작 전이었던 이병래 남동구청장 당선자에게 도움을 요청했다. 

연휴 기간임에도 불구하고 이 구청장은 사안의 시급성을 인지해 부구청장에게 연락해 즉각 상황을 공유했다.

보건소장 역시 신속히 상황을 파악하고 법적 요건을 검토하는 한편, 정신건강복지센터의 전문 상담을 안내하고 치료 지속 여부를 확인하는 등 필요한 지원을 연계했다. 

이후 A씨는 치료 재개와 복약 유지 지원을 통해 일상으로 복귀할 수 있었다.

A씨의 가족은 국민신문고에 올린 글을 통해 “6월 황금연휴 기간이라 기대하지 못했는데, 적극적으로 신경 써주신 덕분에 안정을 찾았고 나 역시 절망적인 상황에서 벗어날 수 있었다”며 거듭 감사의 뜻을 전했다.

이병래 남동구청장은 “임기 시작 전이었지만 구민의 생명과 안전을 지키는 것은 공직자의 당연한 의무인데 일부러 글을 올려 칭찬해주시니 감사할 따름”이라며 “무엇보다 남동구정신건강센터장님과 공직자분들이 빠르게 대처해주시고 애써주신 덕분에 위급한 구민에게 도움을 줄 수 있었다”고 말했다.

이어 “앞으로도 정신질환 가정을 포함한 복지 사각지대의 위기가구를 신속하게 구호할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 덧붙였다.

한편, 남동구보건소 치매정신건강과는 이번 사례를 바탕으로 정신질환 고위험군에 대한 신속한 위기 개입 및 관계기관 협력체계를 한층 강화할 방침이다.

Meanwhile, the Dementia and Mental Health Division of the Namdong-gu Public Health Center plans to further strengthen its rapid crisis intervention for high-risk groups and its cooperative system with related agencies based on this case.
