(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천해양경찰서가 30일, 폐어구로 인한 해양오염을 예방하고 어구관리 제도의 현장 정착을 위해 지난 8일부터 26일까지 실시한 폐어구 불법투기 예방 일제점검을 마무리했다고 밝혔다.

인천해경에 따르면, 이번 점검에서는 인천해경 관할 내 어선 37척을 대상으로 어구보증금제, 어구실명제 이행 여부 등을 확인하고, 제도 이해도 향상을 위한 현장 홍보와 계도 활동을 실시하는 한편, 근해어업(근해자망, 근해안강망, 근해통발, 근해장어통발) 선박에는 어구관리기록부를 배부하고 작성 방법을 안내했다.

또한, 어구판매업체 4개소를 대상으로 어구보증금제 이행 여부를 점검하고, 어촌계·자망협회를 대상으로 폐어구 관리 제도 운영에 대한 의견을 청취하는 등 현장 애로사항 파악과 제도 정착을 위한 예방홍보 활동을 병행했다.

폐어구는 해양생물의 서식환경을 훼손하고 선박 추진기에 감기는 등 각종 해양사고의 원인이 될 수 있어 지속적인 관리가 요구된다. 

이에 인천해경은 이번 점검을 통해 폐어구의 적정 처리와 유실어구 신고의 중요성을 알리고, 해양오염 예방을 위한 어업인의 자율적인 관리 참여를 유도했다.

양종타 인천해양경찰서장은 “폐어구는 해양환경 오염과 해양사고를 유발할 수 있는 만큼 올바른 관리와 처리가 중요하다”며 “앞으로도 지속적인 홍보와 점검을 통해 깨끗한 해양환경 조성에 앞장서겠다”고 말했다.
