그동안 해양경찰청 창조성과담당관, 울산해양경찰서장, 해양경찰청 기획재정담당관, 남해지방해양경찰청 안전총괄부장, 해양경찰청 구조안전국장 등을 역임했으며, 치안감으로 승진해 중부해경청장 전담직무대리직을 맡게 됐다.

박 청장은 취임식 직전 종합상황실에서 가진 3005함장과의 화상통화에서 “서해북방한계선 일대 불법조업 외국어선에 대한 감시활동 강화와 해군과의 협조체계를 긴밀히 유지해달라”고 당부하였고, 취임사에서는 “국민이 체감할 수 있는 해상안전 강화와 현장 중심의 조직 운영에 최선을 다하겠다”며 소감을 밝혔다.
