(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 부천시가 지난 8일 행정안전부로부터 부천시정연구원 설립 허가를 받았다고 밝혔다.

부천시에 따른면, 부천시정연구원 설립은 ‘지방자치단체 출연 연구원의 설립 및 운영에 관한 법률’ 개정으로 가능해졌다. 

기존 ‘인구 100만 이상 대도시’에 한정됐던 설립 요건이 ‘인구 50만 이상 대도시’로 완화되면서, 부천시도 연구원 출범을 추진할 수 있게 된 것이다.

이에 부천시는 지난해 9월 시의회와 협력해 ‘부천시정연구원 설립 및 운영 조례’를 제정하고, 올해 1월 행정안전부에 설립 허가를 신청했으며 이후 설립의 필요성과 시급성을 강조하며 여러 차례 협의를 거친 끝에 이번 허가를 받았다.

부천시는 이를 계기로 연구원 설립을 본격화하며, 내년 상반기 개원을 목표로 준비에 속도를 낼 계획이다. 

법인 등기 등 행정 절차를 마무리하고 초대 원장과 연구 인력을 공개 채용하며, 시청 부지 내 연구원 청사도 마련할 예정이다.

부천시정연구원은 시의 미래 비전 제시, 중장기 전략 수립, 지역 현안 해결을 위한 실증적 정책연구를 수행하는 전문기관으로, 시정 전반의 정책 품질 향상과 행정혁신을 견인하는 싱크탱크 역할을 하게 될 전망이다.
