(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 극단 ‘띠앗’이 지난해 창단공연 ‘분장실’에 이어, 제2회 정기공연 ‘올모스트 메인’을 무대에 올린다. 

인천 문학야구장 지하 문학시어터에서 11월 20일~22일 평일 19시 30분, 토 14시, 17시 2회 펼쳐진다.

연극 ‘올모스트 메인(Almost, Maine)’은 존 카리아니(John Cariani)의 처녀작으로 2006년 1월 뉴욕에서 초연됐다. 

‘사랑에 관한 아홉 개의 시선’이 담긴 이 작품은 미국에서만 2,500여개 프로덕션에서 공연되었고, 20개 이상의 언어로 번역되어 전 세계 관객들과 만나고 있다. 

미국 메인 주(州) 북쪽 가상의 마을 올모스트에서 오로라가 펼쳐지는 마법의 시간 동안 동시에 일어나는 9개 에피소드로 짜인 옴니버스 작품이다. 

각 에피소드는 각기 다른 인물들의 서로 다른 사랑이야기를 다루지만, 모두 “사랑이 찾아오거나, 떠나거나, 변화하는 순간”의 소중함을 이야기한다.

프롤로그와 에필로그 장면을 비롯해 각기 다른 에피소드가 연속적으로 이어진다. 

먼저 작품의 시작과 끝을 장식하는 에피소드는 대화를 통해 사랑을 확인하는 ‘남과 여’의 이야기다. 

남자와 여자의 엇갈리기만 했던 마음은 돌고 에돌아 결국 서로를 마주하며 관객에 큰 울림을 건넨다.

연출을 맡은 임진철 씨는 “북반구 가상의 마을 ‘올모스트’를 우리나라로 가져왔다”면서 “20~30대의 배역으로 짜인 원작과 달리 60대까지로 확장하면서 풋풋한 사랑에서 중후한 사랑까지 폭 넓게 담아봤다”고 말했다. 

공동연출로 함께한 장명수 씨는 “옴니버스 작품답게 짧은 에피소드마다 응축된 감정이 휘몰아칩니다. 남녀 관계의 다양한 감정이 해피엔딩이든 새드엔딩이든 찬란한 오로라와 함께 아름다운 이야기가 된다”고 귀띔했다.
