이에 남동구는 지난 2023년부터 학교 북측 담장 주변 공간을 활용한 보행로 조성계획을 세우고, 인천시교육청 및 약산초교와 지속적인 협의를 진행했다.

그 결과 올해 학교 담장 허물기에 대한 합의가 이뤄졌고, 6월 학부모 설명회를 거쳐 구와 교육청이 함께 협력해 1억 4천만 원의 사업비를 마련했다.

남동구는 교육청, 약산초 등과 협약 체결 후 8월부터 공사를 시작해 어린 학생들과 주민들이 안전하게 이용할 수 있는 통학로를 조성했다.

강명국 약산초등학교장은 “등·하교 때마다 학생들이 차를 피해 통행하느라 힘들었는데, 2학기 개학 전 안전한 보행로가 마련돼 이제 안전하게 다닐 수 있게 됐다”라고 전했다.
