Adolescent drug addiction and solutions

At one time, Korea had the status of a drug-free country set by the United Nations.

A drug-free country is said to be a drug-free country when there are less than 20 drug offenders per 100,000 population, but it lost its status as a drug-free country as of 2015, and in 2021, the total number of drug offenders reached 16,000, a 1.5-fold increase from 10 years ago.

However, it is said that there are far more people who are not arrested than those who are arrested for drug crimes, and in particular, statistics show that the number of teenage drug offenders has increased 11 times in 10 years, from 41 in 2011 to 450 in 2021, and has nearly doubled in the last 3 years. there is.

However, experts offer a grim opinion that in reality more than 10,000 teenagers are addicted to lifestyle drugs such as alcohol and tobacco.

Drugs act on the central nervous system and cause serious harm to the human body when misused. In particular, adolescents take a narcotic pain reliever called fentanyl. This drug is prescribed for terminal cancer patients and has strong tolerance and dependence, resulting in serious withdrawal once administered. As a drug that is virtually impossible to quit due to symptomatic symptoms, there is a problem that brain damage and addiction are much greater for teenagers.

However, this drug can be easily obtained from pharmacies with a doctor's prescription, and teenagers who are good at SNS can easily access it through the Internet.

At first, it is easily exposed due to curiosity and approach of friends, which leads to drug addiction, which eventually leads to the breakdown of not only the person but also the family.

Then, what is the fundamental solution to the problem of drug addiction among teenagers?

First, drugs have a characteristic that it is difficult to get out of addiction once touched, so it is most important not to start in the first place. While reminding that there was no education about drugs, professional education should be supported to notify the dangers of drugs in advance and not approach them.

Second, drug addiction treatment hospitals are also lacking, but there are only two specialized treatment centers nationwide.

Drug addiction treatment itself is very difficult, but there is a shortage of professional manpower for treatment, so adolescents who have already taken drugs do not receive proper treatment and cannot escape from addiction, creating a vicious circle that spreads to the surrounding area. expansion is urgently needed.

Third, do not recognize the drug problem simply as another person's problem, and everyone sympathize with and take interest in the current situation, so that various opinions and support are desperately needed to create a society in which teenagers are safe from drugs.
