남동구에 따르면, 이번 사업체 조사는 국내 사업자와 종사자에 대한 분포 및 그 추이를 파악해 국가, 지방자치단체, 기업의 주요 정책 및 경영계획 수립 및 학술연구 등의 기초자료로 활용하기 위해 매년 통계청에서 주관하고 각 지방자치단체가 실시한다.

남동구는 대규모 국가산업단지인 남동인더스파크는 물론 구월동 로데오 상가 지역, 금융업체, 대형할인마트, 유흥업소 등 여러 분야의 사업체가 밀집된 만큼 5만여 개의 1인 이상 사업체를 대상으로 방문·전화조사를 할 예정이다.
