(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자)  인천시의회가 지난 17일 지질유산 보존을 위한 인천섬발전연구회의 신영희 의원 등 연구회 소속 시의원과 관계 공무원, 외부 전문가 등이 참석한 가운데 ‘지질유산 보존을 위한 인천섬발전연구회 세미나’를 개최했다고 밝혔다.

인천섬발전연구회에 따르면, 이날 세미나는 외부전문가 위촉, 백령·대청 유네스코 세계지질공원 추진경과 및 향후 추진계획 설명, 백령·대청 국가지질공원 유산소개 및 세계지질공원 추진방안, 질의응답 및 자유토론 등으로 진행됐다.

 
먼저 외부전문가로 (사)인천섬유산연구소 소속 김기룡 이사장과 최종근·임원빈 부위원장을 위촉해 의원연구단체 운영의 전문성을 확보했다.

 
이어 ‘백령·대청 유네스코 세계지질공원 추진경과 및 향후 추진계획’ 업무보고에 나선 최희수 인천시 해양생태지질팀장은 “지난해 11월 30일 ‘백령·대청 유네스코 세계지질공원 인증 추진전략 수립 용역’ 최종보고회를 열어 세계지질공원 인증 사전 준비를 마쳤다”며 “환경부 지질공원위원회의 후보지 추천심의와 유네스코 인증의향서 및 본신청서 제출과 대청도 지질공원센터 설립추진 등의 절차가 남아 있고, 유네스코 세계지질공원 필수 인증 조건인 지질공원센터를 대청도에 건립을 추진 중”이라고 설명했다.

 
이어 “유네스코에 인증 신청서를 내년까지 제출하면 유네스코 서면평가와 현장평가를 오는 2025년에 받을 수 있으며, 이후 2025년 9월 유네스코 이사회 심의를 거쳐 2026년 4월 최종 승인을 받는 것을 목표로 하고 있다”고 덧붙였다.

 
또, ‘백령·대청 국가지질공원 유산소개 및 세계지질공원 추진방안’에 대한 전문가 특강에서 김기룡 이사장은 백령·대청의 지질유산인 두무진, 사곳천연비행장, 콩돌해안, 남포리습곡, 농여해안 나이테바위, 미아동해안 연흔바위, 서풍받이 등 다양한 지질유산 소개와 함께 백령·대청도는 지질학적 측면뿐 아니라 역사·문화·생태학 관점에서도 큰 가치가 있다고 강조했다.

 
특강을 마친 후 참석한 연구회 소속 의원들은 인천섬발전연구회의 지속적인 연구 활동과 국내 벤치마킹 시기와 계획  등에 대해 논의했다.

 
연구회 신영희 대표의원은 “백령·대청세계지질공원 인증에 우리도 일조하자는 취지로 인천지역 섬의 장점을 모두 아우를 관광 활성화 정책을 수립할 수 있도록 올 한해 연구활동에 박차를 가하겠다”고 말했다.

 
한편, 인천섬발전연구회는 인천시 섬인 백령·대청 국가지질공원의 지질·자연·문화·역사 등에 대한 실태조사 및 유네스코 세계지질공원 인증기준과 국내 사례 및 국제 동향 등을 분석해 인천 섬 관광 활성화 및 지속가능한 발전 방향에 대한 정책을 연구하기 위해 결성됐다.
