Incheon City strengthens safety of livestock products in production stage in preparation for Chuseok peak season
Promote smooth supply of safe livestock products through early work and holiday slaughter inspection
-Break News Incheon Reporter Park Sang-do

As the city of Incheon expects a sharp increase in meat consumption in response to Chuseok, the peak holiday season, we plan to open the local livestock wholesale market (located in Gajwa-dong, Seo-gu) early and do all we can to ensure a safe and smooth supply of livestock products, such as slaughtering on public holidays. .

In preparation for a sharp increase in meat consumption, the city of Incheon has moved up the slaughterhouse opening time to 7:00 am for three weeks from August 15th to September 2nd, and also carried out slaughtering operations on August 15th, August 20th, and August 27th, which are public holidays. will do

According to last year's slaughter statistics, the average daily slaughtering volume in the city is 64 cows and 1,394 pigs, but during the peak holiday season, the number of slaughtered animals increased to more than 120 cows and 1,750 pigs.

Therefore, as the quantity of slaughter increases, the Health and Environment Research Institute plans to further strengthen the safety inspection of livestock products.

The dispatched slaughter inspector conducts regular sanitary inspections before and during work every day, and removes contamination factors that may occur during the slaughter process to ensure sanitary slaughter.

In addition, during the biopsy, the health of the individual before slaughter is checked using a thermal imaging camera, etc., and in the case of dismantling inspection, meat that is unsuitable for consumption, such as animals suffering from zoonotic diseases and diseases, is discarded.

In addition, we plan to do our best to supply safe and hygienic meat by conducting antibiotic residue testing and microbiological testing of livestock products even after slaughter.

Meanwhile, in-house slaughterhouses are actively strengthening quarantine and training staff to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and in preparation for African Swine Fever (ASF) that occurred in Hongcheon, Gangwon-do in May last year, livestock-related vehicles and personnel entering and exiting the slaughterhouse are thoroughly quarantined. We are doing our best to supply safe livestock products by continuously disinfecting the workplace.

Kwon Moon-ju, head of the Incheon City Health and Environment Research Institute, said, "In the peak season of Chuseok, when livestock consumption is increasing, we will make efforts to smoothly provide livestock food that citizens can eat with confidence through extended slaughtering work and thorough slaughter inspection."
