(브레이크뉴스인천 문광수 기자) 인천시가 오는 6월 5일부터 12일까지 8일간의 일정으로 십정동 열우물경기장에서 ‘2022 ITF 인천국제여자테니스 투어대회’가 펼쳐진다고 밝혔다.

이 대회는 지난 2년간 코로나19 예방 및 확산방지를 위해 연속으로 대회개최가 취소됐다.

그러나 인천시와 인천테니스협회가 일상회복과 테니스 스포츠 발전을 위해 올해는 개최를 결정함에 따라 세계 각국 여자 테니스 선수들이 인천에 모여 실력을 겨룰 수 있게 됐다.

이번 대회는 개인전과 복식전 등 총 2개의 부문으로, 한국을 비롯해 중국, 일본, 미국, 러시아 등 10개국에서 100여명의 선수가 참가하며 경기방식은 토너먼트로 각 경기는 3세트 매치로 진행된다.

그랜드슬램대회와 WTA투어대회에 이은 서킷 규모의 대회로, 총 상금은 2만5천 달러(한화 약 3천1백만 원)이고, 대회 우승자에게는 세계 랭킹 포인트가 주어진다.

관람을 원하는 사람은 별도의 사전예약 없이 무료로 경기를 관람할 수 있다.

정형섭 시 건강체육국장은 “이번 대회를 통해 젊은 선수들에게 꿈과 희망을 줄 수 있고, 세계 각국 여자 테니스 선수들의 기량을 한 곳에서 볼 수 있는 좋은 기회로 많은 시민들의 관람과 응원을 기대한다”고 말했다.
