Incheon Superintendent’s Election ‘Conservative 1 vs Progressive 2’ strand...
Candidate Gye-Woon Choi “I will put the broken Incheon education on the top”
-Break News Incheon Reporter Park Sang-do

After Candidate Gye-Woon Choi for Incheon Superintendent of Education achieved unification of remuneration for the first time in Incheon's history, he has greatly increased the number of contacts with citizens to gather Incheon's remuneration tax.

Candidate Gye-woon Choi handed over business cards to citizens using the subway in front of Dongincheon Station on the morning of the 18th, and greeted them at work. Some citizens also urged, “I will fully support you, so please win so that Incheon Education can stand upright.”

Candidate Choi, a day earlier, greeted her at work in front of Dongam Station on the 17th as well, and on the 19th, she plans to tour the Seokbawi Market to exchange greetings with citizens.

With about two weeks left before the June 1 local elections, candidate Choi Gye-woon's election office is in an atmosphere of encouragement. This is because candidate Huh Hoon, who was on the same conservative side as Candidate Choi, held a press conference on the 17th and announced his sudden resignation and supported Choi.

On the same day, Candidate Hoon Heo announced his resignation, saying, "After a long deliberation, I decided that it was appropriate for Candidate Gye-woon Choi, who had been ahead of me in opinion polls for several months, to become a single, conservative candidate." Until recently, he did not join the unification of the conservatives and walked an independent path.

Candidate Gye-woon Choi reached an agreement with candidate Lee Bae-young at the Incheon Future Education Solidarity in March to achieve unification.

Since then, at the beginning of this month, Choi Gye-woon was selected as the final candidate through the “Incheon Conservative Superintendent of Superintendent Candidate Unification Promotion Council” and declared a team with Park Seung-ran and Lee Dae-hyung, who had been competing, and have been campaigning with them.

With the resignation of Conservative candidate Huh Hoon, this election for the Incheon Superintendent of Education will be contested by one conservative (Choi Gye-Woon) and two progressive (Do Seong-Hoon and Seo Jeong-Ho) candidates.

Candidate Gye-woon Choi, who became the first single conservative candidate in the history of the Incheon Superintendent of Education, is currently an emeritus professor at Incheon University, and previously served as the president of Korea Water Resources Corporation and co-representative of the Incheon Gyeongsang Federation. Candidate Seong-hoon Do, considered a progressive candidate, was a former head of the Incheon branch of the KTU, and candidate Seo Jeong-ho was a former member of the Incheon City Council of the Democratic Party of Korea.

In the last two elections for the Incheon Superintendent of Education, progressive candidates were elected one after another due to the failure of the conservative camp to unite.

In 2018, former Superintendent Do Seong-hoon was elected with 43.7% of the vote, defeating two conservative candidates who shared 56% of the votes. In 2014, as the votes of the three conservative candidates were scattered, Lee Cheong-yeon, the former superintendent of superintendent of education, was elected with a low percentage of 31%.

Candidate Gye-Woon Choi emphasized, "In this election, for the first time in Incheon history, complete unity was achieved in the conservative camp."
