(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 남동구가 구한말 의병 활동을 했던 고(故) 이상덕 선생의 손녀 이은숙 씨에게 문재인 대통령을 대신해 건국훈장 애족장을 수여했다.
  
이상덕 선생은 의병장 정주원이 이끄는 군진의 소대장으로 활동하며, 1908년 충청남도 일대에서 일본군 수비대와 여러 차례 전투를 벌이다 체포돼 유형(流刑) 15년을 선고받았다.

 
보훈지청은 제50차 독립유공자 후손 확인 위원회에서 이상덕 지사의 직계 후손을 확인했고, 올해 4월 인정 의결했다.

 
손녀 이은숙 씨는 “숨어있는 독립유공자를 찾고 있다는 기사를 우연히 신문에서 접하고 독립운동을 하셨던 할아버지를 위해 신청했다”며 “감사하게도 많은 분이 애써주신 덕분에 할아버지의 명예를 되찾을 수 있었고 건국훈장을 받게 돼 뿌듯하다”고 말했다.

 
이강호 남동구청장은 전달식에서 “조국을 지키기 위해 자신을 희생하신 의병들의 숭고한 정신에 감사드리고, 건국훈장을 수여해 드릴 수 있어 영광이다”며 “앞으로도 숨어있는 유공자들이 더 많이 발굴돼 명예와 자긍심을 갖고 사실 수 있었으면 좋겠다”고 전했다.
