On the 22nd, the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea, China and Korea and Vietnam, the non-face-to-face international academic conference ¡®30 Years of Exchange Looking at Migration and Immigration¡¯ will be held at Incheon National University¡¯s Chinese and Chinese Culture Research Institute (Director Jung-ah Jang).

This year marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and China and between Korea and Vietnam.

In August and December 1992, South Korea established historic diplomatic relations with socialist countries, China and Vietnam, respectively.

For the past 30 years, Korea-China and Korea-Vietnam relations have shown a pattern of 'upheaval' in all areas.

In particular, exchanges in the economic field stand out.

China has emerged as Korea's largest trading partner, while Vietnam has emerged as the fourth largest trading partner.

The deepening of economic relations between the two countries facilitated migration between the two countries, and each formed an immigrant society of its own citizens in the other country.

About 300,000 Koreans live in China and about 200,000 live in Vietnam for a long time.

About 830,000 Chinese nationals and 200,000 Vietnamese nationals in Korea are long-term residents, accounting for 60% of long-term foreigners living in Korea.

There are positive aspects of each immigrant society cooperating with each other while actively interacting with the communities in which they live, but there are also a number of problems arising from a lack of mutual understanding.

As a result, the institute has prepared a forum to compare and review the history of 30 years of exchange between the two countries from the perspective of migration and immigration, in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and China and Korea and Vietnam.

According to Lee Jeong-hee, a professor at the Chinese Academy of Chinese Studies at Incheon University, who oversaw this conference, many academic conferences are scheduled in Korea related to the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and China. It is said that the academic conference that comprehensively discusses the history of exchanges between Korea is of great significance in that it is the only one in Korea and abroad.

In particular, this conference attracted attention with the participation of Motoo Huruta, president of Vietnam Ilwol University (Japan-Vietnam University), a world-renowned researcher on contemporary Vietnamese history, and Ming-hwan Li, an authority on the study of overseas Chinese in Europe and Chairman of the International Society for Study of Overseas Chinese (ISSCO). About 20 experts participate as presenters and panelists.

The meeting will be divided into two sessions for active discussion.

The Korea-China session was held by Li Ming-hwan, President of the International Society of Overseas Chinese Studies (ISSCO), looking at the 100-year history of overseas Chinese and Chinese in Europe. A keynote lecture will be given on the actual conditions of social and economic activities.

Lee Jeong-hee, a professor at the Chinese Academy of Incheon University, examines what changes have occurred in the Chinese society on the Korean Peninsula since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and China. diagnosed that it was

Professor Park Woo of Hanseong University looks at Korean-Chinese society in Korea from a different angle than Professor Jeonghee Lee by analyzing the changes over the past 30 years from the perspective of the ¡®Chinese Koreans residing in Korea¡¯ society.

In the Korea-Vietnam session, President Motoo Furuta of Ilwol University gives an in-depth keynote lecture on why Ho Chi Minh is still respected in Vietnam and why the Ho Chi Minh ideology emerged.

Soo-Hong Chae, a professor of anthropology at Seoul National University, introduces the results of closely observing the Korean community who immigrated to Vietnam for over 20 years.

Nguyen Thi Tam, director of the Korean Center at the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, argues that 30 years of Vietnamese immigration to Korea has made great progress in quantity, but it is necessary to improve Korean society's understanding of Vietnamese immigration and to supplement the Korean government's immigration policy.

Jo Jin-seok, CEO of Nawawoori, points out that the Vietnamese side is dissatisfied with the Korean government's official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam because it has not been systematically implemented under a specific philosophy.

Ryotaro Katsura, a visiting professor at Ilwol University, introduces the establishment process and philosophy of Ilwol University (Japan-Vietnam University) in Hanoi, a symbol of government and private cooperation between Vietnam and Japan, a must visit place for the Japanese prime minister when he visits Vietnam.

Shin Seung-bok, a visiting professor at Dai Nam University in Vietnam, who participated as a panelist, said that although Ilwol University has a continuous funding challenge, it is recognized as a national university in Vietnam and is gradually increasing its recognition. It argues that aid needs to be focused here.
