Building-type transparent solar cell with color rendering ‘completely transparent solar cell that can be transparent or change color’
-Break News Incheon Reporter Park Sang-do

Incheon National University (President, Jong-Tae Park) Next-Generation Energy Convergence Research Institute (Director, Professor Jun-Dong Kim) has developed a fully transparent solar power generation technology that can preoccupy the global energy market based on original domestic technology.

Fully transparent solar cell technology is characterized by being transparent and producing electrical energy while transmitting light.

This technology was selected as one of the top 100 national R&D excellence achievements in 2020 (the best in the energy/environment field), and attracted attention as global hot news such as Yahoo News, Electronics Weekly (UK's largest science journal), and Tech Times (US scientific journal). have.

Globally, energy consumption in urban centers, where buildings are dense, is rapidly increasing, and energy consumption is concentrated to the extent that it exceeds 40% of global energy production.

Existing solar cells have great limitations in being installed in urban areas due to their opacity and dark colors.

The fully transparent solar cell developed this time has the characteristics of being transparent or changing color, and if this technology is applied to building windows and exterior walls, it can directly produce energy in human habitation and can serve as a distributed energy source. have.

Professor Sangho Kim (professor of research focus, Institute of Next-Generation Energy Convergence, Incheon National University) developed a function to adjust the color of transparent solar cells this time, and designed it to be applicable not only to windows of buildings, but also to exterior walls and colorful structures of buildings.

This is expected to accelerate the realization of energy production, distributed power generation and zero-energy buildings in urban areas.

Professor Jun-Shin Lee (Sungkyunkwan University, President of the Korea Renewable Energy Association) who participated in this study said, “This technology is suitable for buildings and the Korean environment with high energy density. ” he said.

This technology is building a patent system with the goal of becoming a world-leading technology, and has been published as a cover thesis for the publication of Nano Energy, a specialized energy journal, and Solar RRL, a specialized journal for solar energy.
