The 'People Communication and Listening to People' Project, which the Democratic Party of Korea is conducting to hear the voices of the people on the spot, was held in Bupyeong, Incheon, targeting small business owners.

Assemblyman Lee Seong-man (along with the Democratic Party of Korea, Bupyeong-gap) announced on the afternoon of the 1st that a small business meeting was held at the traffic plaza of Bupyeong Station as part of the ‘People Communication and Listening to People Project’.

The meeting, which was prepared to hear the voices of small business owners, was attended by lawmaker Lee Seong-man, Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil, lawmaker Lee So-young, and Incheon City Council Chairman Shin Eun-ho.

Seven representatives of small businesses, including General Market Chairman Yun Yeon-ho, Bupyeong Underground Shopping Mall Chairman Baek Hyung-rok, and Culture Street Chairman Yoon Dong-jin, attended and represented small business owners.

On this day, small business owners talked about the difficulties of self-employment and the reality of experiencing difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 and business restrictions and bans.

Yoon Dong-jin, Chairman of Culture Street, said, “As the COVID-19 outbreak has lasted for over a year, sales have fallen by more than half, and now we have reached the limit of spending on fixed expenses such as loans and monthly rent. Please support us.”

Rotary Underground President Han Soon-im said, “Although Bupyeong Station is developing as a transportation hub in the metropolitan area, the world’s largest Bupyeong Underpass is still in a poor environment,” and requested to revitalize the underpass and come up with ways to improve it.

In addition, they suggested that they provide support such as the modernization of traditional markets, the creation of car-free streets, and the expansion of parking lots to CEO Song and Rep. Lee.

CEO Song Young-gil said, “It hurts my heart even more to hear the stories of small business owners who are struggling in the midst of COVID-19. I will do my best,” he said.

Assemblyman Lee Seong-man said, "The self-employed and small business owners are the ones who have suffered the most from COVID-19." He said, "I will take the lead in implementing legislative activities and policies for small business owners, such as enacting a loss compensation system and supporting damage."

He added, “I will continue to be a member of the National Assembly, Seongman Lee, who communicates with residents and always does his best for Bupyeong and the Republic of Korea by holding regular hearings to listen to the people’s difficulties in the field.”

Meanwhile, the 'People's Communication and Listening to People's Project', launched on the 25th of last month, was started to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the opening of the 21st National Assembly in order to listen to the voices of party members and the people at the site and to strengthen the people's livelihood policy. The Supreme Council members and others are traveling around the country to listen to the public opinion of all walks of life.
