Voters reject fake news

May 10th was “Votes' Day”.

“Vote” means “a person who has the right to vote,” that is, a person who has the right to choose a person who will run the country according to the will of the people.

Every choice has a reason.

Voters also vote for candidates who, in the process of electing elections, each dream of the state or society they desire or the life they want and promise to make it happen.

If elections are such a process of choice, the information each voter encounters during the election process is an important factor that can determine the voter's choice.

Voters grasp the current state of society from the information they encounter, have problem awareness, and determine whether the candidate is worthy of his or her choice through information on each candidate.

By the way, inaccurate or false information expressed in so-called “fake news” provides incorrect information to voters, disturbing the process of such choices is a big problem in current elections.

Not only classic media such as TV and newspapers, but also unverified or deliberately created misinformation in YouTube and the Internet media are produced and distributed, and such information disturbs the voters' selection process.

We held parliamentary elections last year, and this year, both the first and second cities of Korea held by-elections by mayor, and next year, local and presidential elections are ahead.

At the time of the election, which will mark another landmark in Korea's modern history, I believe that the voters themselves should have the mindset of refusing the fake news and doing a “fact check” on their own.

Because fake news interferes with voters' choices, deprives voters of their “rights,” “fake news, stop!” in order for voters to properly exercise their rights. You have to shout.

“Stop!” started as a campaign against school violence and now becomes a “meme”! Is meaningful in that it emphasizes the active behavior of the victim.

Even fake news can be stopped by a voter's resolute "Stop!"

We hope that more voters will reject fake news and vote based on the right information.
