(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천시가 지난 7일, 봉오대로-경명대로 혼잡도로 건설사업이 기획예산처 예비타당성 조사를 통과하여 사업 추진의 타당성을 확보했다고 밝혔다.

인천시에 따르면, 봉오대로-경명대로 혼잡도로 건설사업은 인천 북부권의 상습적인 교통 혼잡을 해소하고, 원도심과 신도시를 연결하는 남북 간선도로망을 확충하기 위한 핵심 사업이다. 

사업 구간은 인천광역시 계양구 효성동에서 서구 공촌동까지 총연장 2.9km, 폭 20m, 왕복 4차로원으로 규모로, 교량 0.1km와 터널 1.5km를 포함한다. 

총사업비는 2,098억 원이며 예비타당성조사 통과로 국비 977억 원을 확보해 사업 추진의 안정적인 재정 기반을 갖추게 됐다.

이 노선은 현재 봉오대로와 경명대로 사이의 단절된 ‘미싱링크(Missing Link)’를 연결하는 구간으로, 2028년 완공 예정인 검단~경명로 도로개설사업 및 2027년 완공 예정인 효성도시개발구역 진입도로 사업과 연계해 추진된다. 

이를 통해 검단·효성·계양·부천대장 등 약 28만 명 규모의 신규 신도시 개발에 따른 교통 수요를 효과적으로 처리하고, 검단신도시에서 계양, 부평, 인천시청 송도까지 이어지는 남북 간선도로망을 확충할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

특히, 사업 시행 시 서곶로와 계양대로에 집중되는 교통 수요를 분담하여 상습 정체를 완화할 수 있으며, 인천시청에서 검단 주요 지역까지 통행시간이 13분 단축되고, 검단구청에서 부평역까지는 8분 단축되는 등 시민 체감 효과가 클 것으로 전망된다.

박찬대 인천시장은 “봉오대로-경명대로 혼잡도로 건설사업은 인천 북부권 교통 복지를 획기적으로 향상시키고, 원도심과 신도시의 균형발전을 이끌 핵심 사업”이라며 “이번 예비타당성조사 통과와 국비 977억 원 확보를 통해 사업 추진의 든든한 기반을 마련한 만큼, 앞으로 국토교통부 등 중앙부처와 긴밀히 협력해 후속 절차를 차질 없이 추진하겠다”고 말했다. 

이어 “이는 제가 시민 여러분께 약속드린 동서5축 및 남북 6축 도로망 구축 공약이 첫 번째 결실을 맺은 의미 있는 성과로, 앞으로도 격자형 순환도로망을 완성해 시민 체감 교통 혁신을 실현하겠다”고 말했다.
