(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 영종구 출범과 함께 7월 1일 공식 취임한 손화정 초대 인천광역시 영종구청장이 “영종의 백년대계를 설계하라는 구민의 준엄한 명을 받들어, 14만 구민과 함께 대한민국 공항경제수도 영종을 완성하겠다”는 뜻을 밝혔다.

영종구에 따르면, 이날 오후 영종복합문화센터 대강당에서 열린 취임식에서는 구민, 시·구의원, 유관 기관·단체장, 공무원 등 200여 명이 참석한 가운데, 공연, 국민의례, 취임 선서, 취임사 순으로 행사를 진행하며 영종구의 역사적인 출범을 함께 축하했다.

이번 취임식은 “보여주기식 화려함 대신 구민을 위한 내실을 선택하겠다”라는 손 구청장의 강한 의지에 따라, 출범 초기 재정 여건 등을 고려해 행사 규모를 대폭 줄여 검소하고 담백하게 치러져 눈길을 끌었다.

이어 5급 이상 간부 공무원들과 함께 영종구 출범 기념 ‘영종구, 그린스타트!’ 환경정비 활동을 전개한 뒤, 수봉공원 현충탑을 참배하고 영종구청 집무실에서 사무인계·인수서에 서명하며 초대 구청장으로서의 공식 일정을 시작했다.

셋째, 공항경제권 확장을 통해 일자리 중심의 자족도시를 만들겠습니다.

저는 영종의 가장 큰 경쟁력인 인천국제공항을 영종과 인천을 넘어, 대한민국의 미래를 책임지는 성장의 새로운 중심축으로 발전시키겠습니다.
