(브레이크뉴스안천 박상도 기자) 인천 서구가 10일, 민선 8기 강범석 서구청장은 취임 후 2년간, 아동·여성·노인·장애인 등과 같은 사회적 약자들이 안심하고 살 수 있는 서구를 만드는 데 총력을 기울이고 있다고 밝혔다. 

서구에 따르면, '균형과 화합 위에 내일을 열어가는 인천 서구’를 기치로 2022년 7월 출범한 민선 8기 인천 서구는, 2024년 5월 인구 63만 명을 돌파, 대한민국에서 서울 송파에 이어 2위의 인구를 기록하고 있다. 

청라·검단·루원으로 대표되는 3개의 신도시가 조성돼, 지난 10년간 인구 10만여 명이 증가한 인천 서구는, ‘23년 기준 39세 미만 인구가 전체 인구의 46%, 19세 미만이 18.8%를 차지하는 젊은 도시이기도 하다.

○ 안심도시 서구를 위한 2년의 노력

강범석 서구청장 구정 철학 중 하나가 여성, 장애인, 어린이 등 목소리가 작은 취약 계층들도 행복하게 살 수 있는 서구를 만든다는 것이다.  

인천 서구는 강범석 구청장의 이러한 철학에 따라 취임 후 2년간 아동·여성·노인·장애인 등과 같은 사회적 약자들도 안심하고 살 수 있는 서구를 만드는 데 심혈을 기울이고 있다.

첫 번째, 인천 서구는 ‘어린이 안심도시 서구’를 내걸고, 국가적인 저출산 위기 속에서 아이 키우기 좋은 도시 만들기에 앞장서고 있다.

출산·육아 환경 개선을 위해 출산·육아·아빠 육아휴직·산후조리 지원금을 최고 1,000만 원까지 지원하고 있다. 

다자녀 지원도 기존 200만 원에서 300만 원으로 확대하고, 임산부 교통비와 난임부부 지원도 확대해 육아 친화적 환경 조성에 힘쓰고 있다. 

국공립어린이집은 33개소를 신규 설치, 총 78개소로 확충했다. 

이는 서구 전체 어린이집 409개소의 20%에 육박하는 비율이다. 

서구는 앞으로도 국공립 어린이집을 지속적으로 확대해 나갈 계획이다. 

인천형 공동육아나눔터인 ‘아이사랑꿈터’의 경우 기존 4개소에서 9개소로 확대 운영하고 있다.

전문직업상담사가 상주해 장애 유형과 특성에 맞는 구인·구직 상담 및 연계, 취업 후 장애인과 구인업체에 대한 지속적인 모니터링 실시, 공공과 민간 일자리를 연계, 장애인 일자리를 확대하고 고용 만족도도 높이는 데 앞장서고 있다. 

네 번째는 ‘교육 안심 도시 서구’다. 

공공도서관은 그 지역의 문화 척도로 불린다. 인천 서구는 공공 도서관의 신설에도 적극적으로 나서고 있다.
