(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 인천해양경찰서가 지난 25일 인천 중구 남항부두에서 ‘불명 해양오염사고 조사 훈련’을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

인천해경에 따르면, 불명 해양오염사고란 해상에 기름 등 오염물질이 배출됐으나 선박 및 해양시설로부터 유출 흔적이 없고 목격자도 없어 오염원과 행위자가 밝혀지지 않은 것을 말한다.

훈련은 오염사고 신고 접수, 해상 유출유 시료 채취, 인근 입출항 선박 파악 및 탐문 활동, 의심선박 정밀 조사, 행위자 적발 등의 순서로 진행됐다.

인천해경은 신고 접수부터 의심선박 선정 및 오염물질 불법배출 점검, 행위자 적발까지 단계별 사고처리 훈련을 통해 대응능력을 향상시킬 수 있었다.

한재철 인천해경 해양오염방제과장은 “불명 해양오염사고 발생 시 신속하고 체계적인 대응이 매우 중요하다”며 “불법으로 오염물질을 해양에 배출하는 행위를 적극 단속해 깨끗한 해양환경을 만들어 나가겠다”고 말했다.

한편, 선박 및 해양시설로부터 기름·유해액체물질·포장유해물질을 바다에 직접 배출하면 해양환경관리법에 따라 5년 이하의 징역 또는 5천만 원 이하의 벌금에 처해질 수 있다.
